Seriously Writing Humor Full Time

by M. David Lutz on 10/05/22

I has been a long time since I BLOGGED. Not because I did not want to but I was busy earning a living with a 60-hour a week job. Now that I lost my job - well I didn't actually lose it - it is still in the same place but someone else is doing it. Truthfully, they made me an offer I couldn't refuse - they called it 'retirement.' I do the same thing now most days except without a paycheck. This means I will have to cut down on such things as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, which was spending money. So, to keep my all my facilities fervently functioning fluidly and flawlessly I will write. And while my writing may never earn me a dime, by keeping me at home, I will save a fortune from shopping! check me out at http://fb.com/mdavidlutz

Where have you been?

by M. David Lutz on 03/04/20

It has been quite a while since I have updated this web page. I stay very busy as a full-time employee, family man, and all the other demands that keep me from doing what I’d rather be doing which is . . . playing golf!

Just this last month I published the ‘second edition’ of my first book, ‘The Princess and the Plumber in Beast to Beauty.’ It had been more than twelve years since I first began turning the short story into a book. Since that time there have been three more volumes in the series. Rumor has it I am working on the fifth volume, which I cannot confirm or deny at this time. To be honest when I re-read my first volume it was clear that - you could say - I out-grew the first book and felt I had to do a major re-write. Once I made that decision it took ten months to complete.

Now, with time still a premium, I have made the decision to devote some of it to my (not distant enough) cousin Grizzly Gus, and promised to help him put out his first book; on the condition he stay sober enough to finish it.

Hopefully there will be a number of productive writing years to see more works completed.

Best Wishes to all my readers

M. David

Writing is just like golf, ninety percent is ‘mental,’ the other ten percent is in your mind. That is how I feel when it comes to writing. There is the urge and there is desire, but since I have to make an honest living, it can at times be demanding, adding all the other daily demands of life and family it can leave you physically, emotionally, and mentally depleted. While I don’t suffer from writers’ block, I mainly find I’m blocked by a feeling I would describe as a nagging guilt that when I would sit down to write, my mind keeps turning to other things I should be doing. In other words, writing is for when there is absolutely nothing else I need to do but that list never seems to run out.

There are times though, in between meetings or waiting room, to pass the time, I find I can launch into writing and am surprised sometimes at what can be produced in just a little time. That I find especially gratifying. There also comes a time when too many ideas have built up and the urge to write too powerful and I just sit down and write. It is like I am driven and stay at it until I’ve exhausted all the ready ideas.

I say all this as a way of explanation as to why it has been over a year, almost to the day that I had not posted any new material on the Web site. It wasn’t until the other day when one of my readers, or should I say, my one reader, said that they had been checking my site routinely to see if I’d added anything new. I’d like them to think that the reason I am posting now is because of them, and I suppose in a way that is true, but for the most part it is the idea that I’ve come to realize that if you don’t sit down and write, it isn’t going to get done. So like anything else, if a writer is going to be a writer, than a writer must write, whether they ‘feel’ like it or not. Maybe that is not profound, but I think you get the point. And I would suppose that ‘real writers’ like ‘real athletes’ develop the ability and stamina to do what’s needed to succeed through practice and training. So while you might find this article boring, hopefully the rest of the web-site has something that will amuse you.

And since I do all the typing and proofreading, and posting for my older cousin Grizzly Gus, he was heard to exclaim, “bout time you got off you lazy behind and got back to work,” or words to that effect, that I can’t print.

While I intend to do better with more regular postings, I still have other things I must also do on a daily or monthly basis, like eating, sleeping, bathing, etc so there may be times when new posting are delayed.

May it be a better and brighter year ahead for us all

Meet a Grumpy Dwarf

by M. David Lutz on 07/12/14

As a life-long lover of humor and novels, I've really enjoyed writing the first two books in my series, The Princess and the Plumber including The Princess and the Plumber: Beast to Beauty (Volume 1) or The Princess and The Plumber (Beast to Beauty) (Kindle) and The Princess and the Plumber: The Looking Glass (Volume 2) or The Princess and the Plumber in The Looking Glass (Kindle). Here's an excerpt: 'KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK,' (really loud). Her heart leaped within; sure it would be that big hulk of an oaf with his big broad grin, from ear to ear which made him appear so handsome and dear. Expecting a huge oaf but instead she got a dwarf, to her bitter dismay she felt she had been … short-changed.
"I'm Grumpy from Olaf's Ye Olde Heating and Plumbing Service. You look as though you were expecting someone else."
"Is Olaf too important now to do the work himself, he sends to me an elf?"
"Actually, elves are small lively beings resembling humans with pointed ears and magical powers."
"So?"
"Do I look like I've got pointed ears and magical powers?"
"No."
"I'm just a dwarf who unstops crappers and showers. Besides, all the elves around here work for Keebler. It's a union thing I'm pretty sure."
"Oh well, please come in."

Grizzly-isms

by M. David Lutz on 11/07/11

Every since my academically challenged cousin Mark, short for M. David Lutz, who is also short, has been going to school, my writing has dearly suffered.  Now that he once again has 'no class,' I'm figuring he can get back to helping me write and publish my stuff.  Happy Thanksgiving, may someone give you the bird this season.

Also, I changed my email address because no one was writing to the other one.  So now you can not write to this one:   grizzly_gus@yahoo.com
